Tanzania: The Children Who Walk Too Far for School

Filmed in 2011 in the rural areas north of Arusha, this short documentary explores the deep inequalities that shape access to education in northern Tanzania. Through conversations with families — including low-income, and parents living with disabilities — it shows the sacrifices required to keep a child in school and the immense pressure placed on those children to succeed. While bursaries and small support programmes can transform individual lives, many others are left out: families unable to pay for “private” schooling, children living too far from classrooms to walk, and parents who cannot afford transport or daily school lunches. The film offers a candid, early look at a region where poverty, distance and structural gaps keep countless young children out of education altogether.
