“Life Goes On”: A Father Rebuilds After Yemen’s Landmine War

Ahmed Seif Mahyoub was travelling through Yemen’s Taiz governorate to visit relatives when he stepped on a landmine hidden along a mountain road. The blast resulted in the loss of both his legs and transformed every aspect of his family’s life. When I met him in Taiz, Ahmed described the physical and economic challenges of surviving as a double amputee in a country devastated by war - while also demonstrating the improvised adaptations that now allow him to continue supporting his wife and children.
